Addiction is in the Air

This was written one year ago, after owning the iPhone Air for a few weeks. A year later, my thoughts are the same.

The iPhone Air is Apple's holy grail of design. What was once a small chamfered rectangle is now a device with refined, pillowed curves. In a sea of thick, 6.9" behemoths, the Air is a device that promises something new: simplicity.

At least, you think that's what it's promising. If you hold this device, you can't help but assign an emotional weight to its lightness. Could this device finally be the minimalist phone? Sadly, this is the incongruence: it feels like less, so why isn't it?

If your mission is to escape the trenches of Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or any other infinite scrolling hell, then it's easy to see why the promise of a simpler phone will lead you to a simpler life. The phone cannot change your habits. The demon is yourself.

The iPhone Air promises a lightness, but when it's in my pocket, I'm carrying an immense weight. Is it really the phone?

Boo! Did I scare you?
